Recently, NTEU and CBP agreed to the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding with regard to the agency’s Directive on the Law Enforcement Explorer Program. The program seeks to match adolescents interested in the job functions CBP performs with employees willing to share their job related knowledge and skills. The purpose of the Directive is to document specific roles, responsibilities and lines of accountability for participants in the program, both CBP employees and the explorer participants (ages 14 – 20). While the Program is not new, the agency did not previously have a Directive on the issue. The parties’ agreement affirms that volunteers and advisors to the Program will be selected in seniority order.
