Recently, NTEU and CBP reached agreement on the agency’s rollout of the use of tablets for CBPOs. The tablets will be assigned to particular work units or programs at the ports and not to individual CBPOs.
NTEU and CBP have negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the agency’s use of the tablets. Its highlights include:
• All bargaining unit employees will receive training on the tablets before CBP may require their use.
• CBP will be responsible for providing storage of the devices overnight and will be responsible for ensuring the devices are charged.
• No bargaining unit employee will be required to take a tablet out of the duty station during any period in which the bargaining unit employee is in a non-pay status.
• CBP will not use the tablets to monitor or track an employee’s location, nor to monitor an employee’s start/stop times.
