This Office of Personal Management (OPM) has released the results of its Federal Work-Life Survey, conducted from January through March 2018. The survey reinforced what NTEU already knows employees value: work schedule flexibilities and telework. Highlights include:
-Highest rated were work schedule flexibilities (80 percent), telework (76 percent), and employee assistance programs (60 percent);
-Satisfaction with health and wellness programs was only 38 percent;
-Family and dependent care options were also low at 30 percent, including employees with adult-dependent responsibilities, which is expected to double in the next five years; and
-Less than half of employees experience positive supervisory support for the use of work-life programs.
Overall, the study concluded that a supportive work culture helps the federal government serve as an employer of choice for the modern workforce.
However, some agencies have acted contrary to these results. NTEU is carefully monitoring this issue across agencies and will continue fighting for workplace programs that benefit agencies and employees.
